I am an Artist, Illustrator, and Graphic Designer from Orange County California, and I have been creating artwork under the name "Gravehearts Design” since 2007. My artwork is inspired by a great many things, but first and foremost, it’s inspired by Halloween.
I’ve always been drawn to the aesthetic of Halloween. The colors, the lights, the textures, the imagery the word creates in your mind’s eye. This is home to me. When I was a kid, it was the only time I felt like I could be myself. To me Halloween is as much about innocence and family as it is about horror and the macabre, and it’s that juxtaposition that has always fascinated me.
I also try to tell a stories with my artwork. Much of my pieces in fact stem from a larger narrative that I have been writing in my head for as long as I can remember; the story of The House of Gravehearts. It is a story that I have woven tightly through American History. You’ll see a lot of dates and historical references throughout my art, and the pieces fit together like a puzzle. As you connect the pieces, the story begins to come into focus. My hope is that it makes things more fun for everyone, because it definitely makes things more fun for me.
Megan has been my girlfriend, and partner in crime, since 2011. Her nickname comes from her insatiable curiosity, her love of adventure, and her uncanny knack for getting herself into trouble. She may be tiny (4ft 11in), but what she lacks in height, she more than makes up for in snarkyness.
Megan collects taxidermy, articulated skeletons, wet specimens, oddities, tattoos, and Hello Kitty merchandise. She loves travel, food, classic horror movies, tiki bars, theme parks and thinking up random shenanigans for the two of us to get into. In addition to being our page model, she is also a hairdresser, and she is currently studying to be a radiographer (mainly because she loves looking at people’s insides).
We are also both award winning cosplayers, and we make and wear costumes together under the name Gravehearts Cosplay. Some of our better known costumes are our Scarecrow and Harley combo, Megan’s Lady Two-Face, and my Deathstroke. You may have also seen us goofing around in our home made Mandalorian Helmets. We attend a lot of conventions in the southwest including Wondercon, Long Beach Comic Con and Phoenix Comic Con.
